Hangin' out with Petrified People (Pompeii)

Ciao from the city that sleeps eternally under a very large coating of volcanic ash. That's not really true now, since excavations have uncovered a fair amount of it. Anyway, here we go. The above picture is of us at the site. Pompeii is huge! Chris set the camera on a timer, then put it on a broken column to get this pic. Very cool!
This is an oven in a kitchen in Pompeii. Very interesting to see how people, even that long ago, did daily chores like cooking just like we did.

You may be asking where all the petrified people are. Turns out, most of them have been taken to museums around the world. There are some left, but honestly they are really sad to look at. I did take some pictures, but I can't bare to post them. It is very, very realistic (because it IS real!) and hard to look at. Let me know if you like to see them. They are interesting, after all. But the city as a whole was very interesting. You could spend days touring the different sites. It was an exciting trip. The train to Naples, near Pompeii, took about an hour and a half each way. We also got lost, and spent another hour and a half waiting for the right train in a teeny, teeny town. But, that's another post.
