Paris Cafes and Treats

There is a definite cafe culture here in Paris. After about 4 pm, the cafes start to fill up as locals sit and sip coffee for a few hours. Around eight, they go to dinner. Lots of relaxing :) So we have tried to sit and relax too, bit it is hard to sit! Very un-American. You feel like you should be doing something. Like laundry.

Also, just like in Italy, everyone smokes, especially in cafes. Walking down the street is a haze of smoke sometimes, especially behind groups of young women.

The Patisseries, or bakeries, are awesome here. For breakfast we have been going around the corner for quiche. They also have beautiful raspberry tarts and eclairs.

And have you had a macaroon? They are these little cookies that look like cookie sandwiches. But when you bite in to them, they crackle and start to dissolve, as if they are made of meringue. They come in different flavors. At Versailles we had raspberry, chocolate, pistachio and salted caramel. Delicious!
